Agilent Technologies offers a single test solution for all triple-play services

Video over IP or IPTV is the new technology that is leading a revolution in the service communication ecosystem. Significant investment is being made to design and deploy new triple-play services, headed by IPTV and video-on-demand (VoD), and complemented by VoIP and data services. Competitive, political, technological and regulatory activities are driving the growth of triple-play services. MSOs (multi-service operators or cable companies) already offer video and data over their cable infrastructure and are rapidly adding voice over IP (VoIP) to create a full triple-play bundle that is attracting new customers. Customers are not concerned about how the service is offered or what infrastructure is being used. They want a service that is inexpensive and reliable with an acceptable quality and comprehensive features.

In delivering these services the customers’ experience is paramount. Customers want reliable, high quality VoIP calls, large bandwidth for rapid data downloads and trustworthy broadcasts for IPTV and video-on-demand, all through one residential gateway or single access point in the home.

While preparing networks to transmit voice, data and video services to customers, service providers face two main challenges. First, complexity due to the real time, high-bandwidth requirements of video services and the need to meet multiple standards, protocols and processes; and second, the race to develop and deploy faster, more reliable IPTV services before their competitors acquire market share.
